Whaddaya mean, "gone fishin'?"
Well, I'm not exactly going fishing, but I am taking a break...
For those who know this site, and may be wondering about our virtually empty shelves, I assure you that I am planning to refresh our stock sometime in 2025. But like so many in the import business, I am in the midst of a dilemma - facing the prospect of prohibitive tariffs that will force me to increase my prices significantly, or holding off in hopes that the prevailing trade conditions will improve. And so, I have been delaying the restocking process in hopes that the current tariff picture will change.
Just after I post this, I am removing the one lonely remaining hammock listed on the site. And then I'm off on a long needed vacation. When I return in August, I will upload some inventory to the site. Hopefully, our latest order will be in the works by late August (tariffs be damned) and hit our shelves in late 2025/early 2026.
And as a final note, I would like to reveal that last summer we connected with a provider of the most remarkable, luxurious variation of the Mayan hammock - what are known locally in the Yucatan as "hamacas crochet". These hammocks are not technically crocheted, but rather are made of even finer threads than standard Mayan hammocks, in a much tighter weave. They are extremely rare, mind-blowingly beautiful, and - full disclosure - significantly more expensive than standard Mayan hammocks.
There are very few weavers producing these unique works of artisanal handcraft, as they take several months of skilled handwork to produce. I will roll out a very small number of them on the website in August. So watch this space, and thanks to our many dedicated followers! I love hearing from you!
